Churchill Otieno, a leading journalist with 19-years’ experience in digital media, is the Managing Editor for Digital at Nation Media Group and the President of the Kenya Editors Guild. He specializes in newsroom leadership and digital transformation. He is also a visiting lecturer at the Aga Khan University’s Graduate School of Media and Communications and at Moi University. Mr. Otieno holds a M.Sc in Communication Studies (Moi University), B.Sc in Communications and Public Relations (Moi University), a Diploma in Journalism (Nyegezi), and was a visiting scholar at New York University’s Department of Journalism.

A well-known conference speaker, Mr. Otieno has wide-ranging experience in training and newsroom leadership, having successfully run trainings on mobile journalism, newsroom innovation and change, journalism in times of information disorder, and media regulation for different organisations including Nation Media Group, Women in News (WAN-IFRA), Media Council of Kenya, US Department of State, GiZ, Article 19 and DW Akademie, among others. He has been at the core of newsroom innovation for NMG in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. As a leader of editors, together with other media entities (Media Council of Kenya, Kenya Union of Journalists, Media Owners Association, and Association of Media Women in Kenya), Mr. Otieno is a co-leader of an ongoing process to rethink media self-regulation in Kenya.
